Sport spice: Rooney set for central role
Radamel Falcao permanently following his Old Trafford loan spell last season, while Robin van Persie left to join
Fenerbahce last week.
Falcao has joined Chelsea on a similar season-long loan deal and United now are left with relatively unproven
youngster James Wilson, and Javier Hernandez – who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid – as striking
alternatives to Rooney if the United skipper is unavailable.
New signing Memphis Depay, who joined from PSV after finishing top scorer in the Dutch Eredvisie last season, could
also be used as a lone striker if Louis van Gaal’s side line-up in a 4-3-3 formation next term.
Rooney scored 12 Premier League goals last season and has failed to score more than 20 in the league since the
2011/12 season when he scored 27 and finished behind just Arsenal's Van Persie in the Premier League top scorer
stakes.
The England captain was deployed by Van Gaal in central midfield and in a number 10 role on several occasions last
season and has also played in wide roles over the past few seasons but after being named as United captain last
season he is now expected to be handed a senior striking role.
Van Gaal is thought to be relaxed about the striker situation and is expected to give Javier Hernandez a chance to
get his Old Trafford career back on track if another centre forward is not signed.
United have already spent £80m this summer bringing in Depay, midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan
Schneiderlin, and full-back Matteo Darmian from Torino.

Liverpool Legend, Steven 'General' Gerrard Scores In His MLS Debut
The Liverpool icon already looks quite comfortable on the West Coast, and that could be bad news for the rest of this league.
Gerrard scored in the 37th minute of his official MLS debut before assisting on Robbie Keane’s tiebreaking goal in the Galaxy’s
5-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday night.
“I felt like a kid out there again,” the 35-year-old Gerrard said after playing 87 minutes and leaving to a standing ovation. “I
didn’t want to come off there. I want to play as much football as I can. … I’m really happy sitting here. I’m happy with the level.
I feel very confident and happy with my teammates. We’re only going to get stronger. I think the future is bright here.”
Keane also scored twice on penalty kicks for his second straight hat trick in league play. His new partnership with Gerrard is off
to a tantalizing start for the Galaxy, who roared back from a two-goal deficit for their fourth win in five games on the strength of
their stars.
“As the game went on, we were getting better and better,” said Keane, who shook off a serious pregame illness just to suit up.
“With Steven scoring that second goal, it gave everybody a lift, the players and the fans.”
Two of Keane’s goals were created by Gerrard in his official debut game in the top North American league. The longtime
Liverpool and England captain played briefly in two non-league Galaxy games this month, but the Southern California crowd
properly welcomed Gerrard in a dynamic victory for the defending MLS champions.
Wearing his white No. 8 shirt and starting in midfield, Gerrard showed off an immediate connection with Keane, the reigning
MLS MVP. They were teammates for a season at Liverpool seven years ago, and they picked up right where they left off.
“We had that chemistry in Liverpool, I think,” Gerrard said. “When you play with good players, it’s easy to connect. Robbie is on
the wavelength. He’s a very intelligent player. He’s done it here for many years. For me, it’s quite easy to connect because I
know where he’s going to be. We have a relationship, and it’s only going to get stronger.”
In the 30th minute, Gerrard earned a penalty that was converted by Keane for the Galaxy’s first goal. Gerrard then confidently
banged home a deflected ball in the box after an excellent buildup by Keane and his new teammates. After the celebratory slide
toward the Galaxy supporters, he blew a kiss to his family in the stands.
Early in the second half, Gerrard expertly slid a free kick low into the box for Keane, who chipped it home for his fifth goal in two
league games. Keane completed the hat trick in the 80th minute with another penalty kick, and Sebastian Lletget headed in a
final goal on a pass from Robbie Rogers in second-half injury time.
Gerrard and Keane got several huge ovations from the StubHub Center fans anticipating a thrilling stretch run in an up-and-
down season for the Galaxy, who won their third MLS Cup title in four seasons last year.
“The second half of this season is looking good for the players,” Keane said. Gerrard’s debut was watched by Landon Donovan
and David Beckham, his illustrious predecessors in the Galaxy midfield. Donovan retired last winter, while Beckham left the
Galaxy after his second MLS Cup title in late 2012.
The Galaxy are moving on with Keane and Gerrard, who has been welcomed to town with great fanfare. The Galaxy plastered
his face on billboards and television ads before he ever suited up for the five-time MLS champions, and some souvenir stands
at StubHub Center were devoted solely to Gerrard merchandise.
The Galaxy are about to get another star as well: Mexican midfielder Giovani dos Santos will join Keane and Gerrard after the
Gold Cup tournament. The former Villareal and Barcelona midfielder will wear the No. 10 shirt previously owned by Donovan,
likely debuting against the Seattle Sounders on Aug. 9.
Quincy Amarikwa scored two goals in the first half for the Earthquakes, who have lost five straight since beating the Galaxy on
June 27.

I almost ended my brother Jesse Jags career- MI reveals
According to M.I, Jesse was already a star before him as far back as 2004 and when he (M.I) got back from United States of America, he had to advice his already made brother to stop and come start loopy with him.
In his words,“My brother in 2004 when I returned from the states Jesse was a star in Jos and had a burgeoning production career. I asked him to walk away from it all and start Loopy with me. He left all he accumulated to earn 2000 naira a week and split with me. We were already joined by blood but that joined us by fire.”
M.I and Jesse have truly come a long way and have crossed many huddles with Jesse parting ways with the Choc City record label some years back and later returned to the label which was seen as a welcome development by many.

United in Schweinsteiger talks
Negotiations have reached an advanced stage, but no deal has been struck yet. Schweinsteiger is back in Munich
after spending time in London watching his girlfriend Ana Ivanovic playing at Wimbledon.
Earlier this week Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted the midfielder was “flattered” by the interest from United.
The 30-year-old Germany midfielder has only a year left to run on his current contract with Bayern while talks over a new deal do not appear to be on the agenda.
Schweinsteiger played under United boss Louis van Gaal at Bayern, winning a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, part of his collection of eight Bundesliga titles and seven domestic cup triumphs for the Bavarian club.
On Thursday Rummenigge said: "I spoke to Bastian Schweinsteiger on the phone while on holiday and we're going to meet again when he's back.
"I'm not going to hide the fact that I discerned from these talks that he is flattered by the interest from England."
German newspaper Bild claims United will have to pay Bayern around £15m, and that they will offer Schweinsteiger a three-year contract.

SPORT DICE: All transfer gossip
MULLER TO UNITED FOR £60M
Man Utd are "plotting a £60m swoop for Thomas Muller", according to the Daily Star.
Jeremy Cross' piece is however pretty thin on the specifics of the deal, but it does
inform us that Radamel Falcao and Danny Welbeck have left, Robin van Persie is going
to leave and Javier Hernandez is injured... great.
Bayern Munich forward Muller is Louis van Gaal's top target, we're lead to believe, but he is also "keen on" Harry
Kane, Edison Cavani and Alexandre Lacazette. Anyone else?
GOOD EVANS...
Manchester United have slapped a £10m price tag on defender Jonny Evans, report the good people of the Daily
Mirror and Daily Express.
After you've wiped up the spat out tea from your desk, yes £10m, and West Brom are apparently keen on the

Chelsea are poised to complete the signing of Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic for £8m with Marco van Ginkel heading to

Most of the time, when I go to shows, I already know

While we were dancing, she kissed me and I got
carried away for a few moments,” he said. Bad boy
He also spoke on his gay marriage post, saying he

Davido Blames ‘ Fuel Scarcity & Ramadan Fast ’ For The Delay Of His Sophomore Album
Award winning singer, Davido has explained the reason behind the delay of his highly anticipated sophomore album from June 8, 2015 to a yet-to-be-announced date.
In a recent interview with Notjustok TV, the Omo Baba Olowo said the album was postponed largely due to the fuel scarcity issue at that time as well as his graduation from Babcock University on June 7.
Davido has not announced a new date for the release but fans can expect the album to drop after the current Ramadan period because according to him: –
“I want the Ramadan to end too, because I have a lot of Muslims in my
family that won’t be able to celebrate if the album drops now”.

SPORT DICE: GOSSIP ON TRANSFERS SO FAR
N'ZONZI LEAVING STOKE
The worry for Stoke fans was always that Steven N'Zonzi would leave the club as soon
as he got really good. Their worst fears are close to being realised.
The ever-reliable John Percy reports that Sevilla are close to sealing a £7m to sign the
French midfielder after the two clubs agreed a fee. N'Zonzi is understandably keen to
play in the Champions League.
Given that N'Zonzi is entering the last year of his contract the price is probably fair, but
Stoke are going to have a damn difficult job replacing him.
STERLING RINGS IN SICK
Oh wow. We would never suggest that Raheem Sterling is not genuinely sick but it does seem a tad timely that this
illness has descended on the day that the nation's newspapers reported that he has asked not to go on tour with Liverpool next week.
On Monday, Sterling apparently told Brendan Rodgers that he does not want to travel with Liverpool to Asia and Australia because he is desperate to leave the club, preferably to Manchester City. Now he has taken awful poorly.
RVP TO FENERBAHCE (AGAIN)
Fenerbahce are confident of completing a deal to sign Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, according to Sky sources.
The Turkish club's director Guiliano Terraneo apparently travelled to London to discuss a potential deal with United chiefs for the 31-year-old Netherlands striker, who has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford.
CABAYE ON HIS WAY TO PALACE...
Yohan Cabaye has turned down Atletico Madrid and 'a few other English clubs' in order to be reunited with Alan Pardew, according to L'Equipe. Which is quite extraordinary.
The fee is apparently £10m rising to £13m (according to the BBC), personal terms have been agreed (£100,000 a week, according to various reports on Tuesday) and a medical is set to take place in the next 48 hours.
WILLIAM CARVALHO FOR REAL?
Rafa Benitez likes a good holding midfielder and the good holding midfielder he likes right now is Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
He would cost a pretty penny though - the 23-year-old's buy-out clause is set at £32m. We are contractually obliged to say here that he has been strongly linked with both Arsenal and Manchester United.
MAN CITY TARGET HIGUAIN?
Now this is a transfer that makes sense in theory - though we're not sure that £42m for a 27-year-old should ever really make sense.
Tuttomercatoweb claim that Manchester City (as well as Arsenal) are interested in Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, presuming they can cash in on one or both of Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic.
DE GEA DEAL AGREED
Well, well. El Confidencial in Spain claim that Manchester United and Real Madrid have agreed a fee for David de Gea of £28.6m. As the goalkeeper has already allegedly agreed a wage cut to move back to Spain (he will be paid just£67k a week after tax), the deal is surely now just a matter of time.
El Confidencial make no mention of Sergio Ramos in their article; we suspect that Madrid's alleged offer of £28.6m halted all demands for the defender to be included in the deal.
DI MARIA FOR GOTZE?
Yesterday we had the b**locks about Angel Di Maria being swapped for Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and cash.
Today we have Sport Bild claiming that Di Maria could be swapped for Mario Gotze, as reported by ESPN.
The evidence for that seems to be Gotze's agent mouthing off about his treatment at Bayern, but we still remain wholly unconvinced.
Still, it definitely contains more truth than yesterday's effort, as dissected right here .
REAL REJECT CHELSEA'S ISCO BID
We didn't realise it had been confirmed that Chelsea had made a bid for Real Madrid midfielder Isco, but the Daily Mirror informs us that a) they did bid, b) that bid was £20m, and c) it has been rejected by Madrid.
Isco is 23 and joined Real Madrid for £23m two years ago. He hasn't really kicked on at the Bernabeu, however, leading to interest from Manchester City and Chelsea. We're not sure how he fits into Chelsea's first-choice side
either, to be honest.
Meanwhile, the Mirror also reveal where Izzy Brown is going on loan to next season. It begins with 'V' and ends in
'itesse Arhem'.
ARSENAL INTERESTED IN DI MARIA
Bring a basket to the rumour farm, because it's pick-your-own bulls**t day. This really is silly season.
The Daily Mail claim that Arsenal could sign Angel Di Maria from Manchester United. Actually.
The Mail themselves admit that United would be reluctant to sell to a direct rival, while Di Maria's reported £280,000-per-week wages would be beyond Arsenal. Both of which are true.
They then say Arsenal 'would be interested provided a deal would fit into their financial framework'. You've just told
us that it wouldn't fit their financial framework.
UNITED WANT SCHNEIDERLIN SORTED
To the Guardian now, and news that Manchester United would quite like to get their deal for Morgan Schneiderlin wrapped up before they head off to the US on Monday.
That's all very well chaps, but in order to do so you probably need to make a bid that Ronald Koeman considers as serious. Southampton are clearly preparing for Schneiderlin's departure by targeting Feyenoord's Jordy Clasie, but United just need to stump up the cash in order to get a deal done quickly. The midfielder won't be leaving on the
cheap.
AND THE REST
Micah Richards has told his new skipper Fabian Delph not to swap Aston Villa for Manchester City - unless he
genuinely believes he is world class...Alan Pardew will splash the cash in a double bid to land both Yohan Cabaye
and QPR striker Charlie Austin...Former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has issued a come-and-get-me plea to
Leicester...Leicester are trying to sign Caen star N'Golo Kante - despite not having a manager in place. City, who
fired Nigel Pearson earlier this month, have offered £6m for the defensive midfielder...Everton have made an £8milion
bid for Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann.
Newcastle have stepped up their interest in Georginio Wijnaldum - but now face competition from Everton...Former
Reading and Crystal Palace winger Jimmy Kebe is to have a trial with Mallorca; the 31-year-old is a free agent after
his Palace contract was cancelled in January...West Ham have failed in a bid to sign Rennes winger Paul-Georges
Ntep, who would prefer a move to a Champions League club...Aston Villa are stepping up their pursuit of Nice left-
back Jordan Amavi...Alex Neil has been told it will cost promoted Norwich £9m to prise Robbie Brady away from
relegated Hull.

The midfielder won't be leaving on the
cheap.
